Migraine Sufferers

If you suffer from migraines, you know how debilitating they can be.  Nausea. Sensitivity to light and sound.  Pounding head.  

For about 4 or 5 years now I have suffered from migraines.  They are not always so bad that I can't function, but sometimes they are.  When it is bad, it hinders my concentration and work. Sometimes, I can't drive.  I just want to go into a dark room and sleep.  

I haven't been diagnosed with migraines which means I haven't been prescribed any medication for it. Therefore, I have to resort to OTC medications. 

I've tried Excedrine Migraine.  It worked for a while. It no longer works for me.  I'm tried Tylenol. It doesn't touch a Migraine. 

I have found lately that the only thing that works for me is 1000mg of Naproxen Sodium.  For example, this morning, I woke up with a bad headache at 7:00.  I immediately went to the medicine cabinet and took Naproxen Sodium.  Within 20-30 minutes, I could tell it was going away.  I also had a cup of coffee which helps too. 

By the time I got to work this morning at 8:30, I was headache free. And for some reason after a migraine, I am in the best mood.   

So, I guess this post was an infommercial for Naproxen Sodium and a self-help for those who suffer from migraines.   

If you suffer from migraines, what do you do to ease the pain?

Migraines are awful. I (knock on wood) have been migraine free mostly for a few years. A couple years ago I used to get them weekly. My mom gets them almost daily. The thing that worked for me was a prescription migraine med (can't remember the name now). Naproxen is ok. Works well for cramps too :)

I hope they lessen soon. Have you read up on food triggers for migraines?

I should have wrote about that too Britt. One of my food triggers is Sharp cheddar cheese. It gives me the worst migraines. Do you have any food triggers or does your mom?

I take whatever is handy until I can take a long sleep. If I catch it early, OTC stuff will usually allow me to work the day, but I will sleep for 10-12 hours after I get off work. Luckily, they are usually only bad enough for me to miss one day of work, although it will linger for about 3-4 days longer than that.

I sometimes feel sorry for my husband. His favorite food is Asian, and it's a migraine trigger for me. I will be in bad shape before he can even finish eating. Pepper also sometimes trigger migraines for me, but that is one of the more severe reactions that peppers give me.

the only thing that works for me and doesn't knock me out and/or make me nauseous in the process is Solpadeine Migraine, which I get from the UK, with one Advil. and coffee! weird, eh?

The only thing I've found that actually helps me is sleep. I've taken most of the OTC medications and some will help for a little while, but never rid me of the pain entirely.

I've never noticed a food trigger, but then I've never thought to look for one either. Interesting....I might have to pay closer attention next time.
